From Hoboken to Hollywood is a long journey, especially for a scrawny 9th grade dropout son of Italian immigrants who came to this country armed with nothing but dreams. But by dint of talent, immense drive, staying power, and a little help from his friends, Frank Sinatra became the voice of a century.
Recording more than 2,000 songs over his 60-plus year career, you can hear in his voice, the yearning of youth, the wisdom of maturity and the reflection of age.
50 years ago, at the height of his powers, he was recorded live at the Sands. In honor of what would have been his 100th birthday, join us at the Herbst Theater as we recreate that night when he shared the stage with the great Count Basie. The Bay Area’s finest vocalists will grace the evening with song: Amanda King, Patrick Leveque, Deborah Winters, Sofia Perozzi, Bobby Vickers and Noah Griffin with the Starduster Orchestra led by Count Basie’s drummer, Harold Jones.
All proceeds benefit the The Cole Porter Society’s mission to bring the Great American Songbook into schools.
